Information:
The journal Chronique d'Egypte appeared for the first time in December 1925. In the preface to this first issue, Jean Capart, who had founded the Queen Elisabeth Egyptological Foundation two years before, warns his fellow Egyptologists that the journal does not intend to become yet another scientific journal; its aims are much more modest. The Chronique d'Egypte aims to be a link between the foundation and its members. The discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb has sparked public interest in Egyptian culture, but this fire needs to be maintained. Capart therefore suggests informing members about new discoveries and recent publications, both for the scientific and wider public.
However, the Chronique d'Egypte will quickly gain a great scientific reputation to become one of the most important Egyptological journals. Partly due to the collaboration of Egyptologists and papyrologists and later of Arabists, the Chronique d'Egypte will not only become one of the most important Egyptological journals but also one of the few journals covering the entire history of Egypt from prehistory to the Pharaonic period, from the Coptic period to the Arab period.
The journal Chronique d'Égypte is published with the support of the ‘Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles’, the ‘Fondation Universitaire’ and the ‘Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique (F.R.S.-FNRS)’. It has about 350 pages annually.
